Matty Tew is targeting a Southern Area title after coming through a tough test against a very game Andy Harris at the Guildhall. The Southampton lightweight took some punishment in the third round, but managed to pull through to take a 59-56, decision.

Tew said: “I did not want to fight a journeyman, I wanted someone that comes and gives me a fight like he did. “I need tests like that, now I want a Southern Area title shot.”

Southampton’s Joe Pigford is starting to gain a reputation as a knockout artist.

In his fourth fight he picked up his third win inside the distance as he impressively dismantled the very durable Bhecki Moyo - who had only been stopped previously five times in 63 bouts.

Pigford came out patiently in the first round and fired off double jabs and some nice left hooks to the body that softened up Moyo. The stoppage came in the second round as Pigford trapped him on the ropes with a brutal combination, that saw the referee step in to stop the fight.

Now promoter Wayne Batten believes he will have a headache trying to find fights for Pigford.

“The problem is now no-one around here wants to fight Joe,” he reported. “We’ll have to bring in imports from now on.”

In his second fight, Southampton-born Wade Armour knocked out Ben Chieskoski in four rounds with a brutal bodyshot to the solar plexus.

Debutant Rich O'Connor beat tough Jay Morris in a scrappy brawl that was fought at close quarters, and won a 39-37 decision.

In a family affair, Bournemouth-based brothers Shane and Tommy Watson both fought on the same card for the first time, and they secured wins. Tommy outpointed Liam Griffiths, while Shane beat Jamie Zaslos.
