Southampton ABC have cause for a double celebration.

They have not only secured some vital sponsorship, but have also hosted a successful show which saw a number of their fighters bag wins.

Boosted by cash from D Adams and Sons Roofing that has enabled them to buy extra kit and equipment, they hosted a well-supported show at The Royal British Legion.

Southampton ABC starlet Mitchell Thorne posted an impressive victory with his powerful shots leaving Dominic McDonagh’s corner to retire him at the end of the second round.

Lewis Wells was also a winner, defeating Steve Clarke (Sturminster Newton) by an unanimous decision, thanks in part to forcing a standing count in the final round.

Jack Hillier was another unanimous decision winner over Macaulay Barnes (Newport IOW) in what was a cracking bout with both boxers getting on top for periods.

Ramez Hashimi’s impressive form continued in a hard-fought contest against Brandon Thomas (Sweet Science).

Both men traded some heavy shots but Hashimi nicked a majority decision.

There was disappointment for Nathan Morris, who lost a unanimous decision to Liam Watt (Titchfield).

But Southampton’s Lee Cutter picked up boxer of the show for his unanimous win over Chas Berry (Royal Engineers).

John Smith lost a close majority decision to Jordan Blyth (Tadley & Distrcit) but Dean Little floored Sam Spencer (Royal Engineers) in the first and second rounds to win a majority decision.

Elsewhere on the bill, Gemini ABC (Liverpool) had successes for Thomas Dring, Alex Pattison, Mark Scott and Matthew Davison.

There were also victories for Paul James (Tadley & District), Joe Tindal (St Mary’s), Joe Hunt (Heart of Portsmouth) and Carl Evans (Team Wiseman).

Southampton ABC coach Gary White said: “It was a really good show for us.

“We had great support and some excellent performances.

“The sponsorship is a big thing for us too and we are very grateful because it means we can really progress the club.”
