Southampton is to host its first world boxing title fight.
The Daily Echo can today reveal that King Davidson will compete for the WBO international light middleweight belt on June 30.
Though an exact venue has yet to be confirmed, the fight will be one of the highest profile bouts to ever take place in the city.
The Nigerian former Commonwealth Games medallist, who believes fate brought him to Southampton to become a world champion, takes another step on that journey when he tries to win the title at the end of next month.
Though his opponent is not totally signed and sealed yet, it is expected that Ghanaian fighter Joseph Lamptey will be the man to challenge Davidson with both fighters recommended for the bout by the WBO.
If Davidson were to win, it would guarantee him not only another title to add to his collection but a top 15 ranking with the WBO.
That would put him on a path to eventually challenge for the full version of the world title, which is currently held by Zaurbek Baysangurov.
