HAMPSHIRE are already planning some star signings for next season’s inaugural P20 competition.
After beating Essex by six wickets to secure third place in the Twenty20 Cup’s South Division, Hampshire were awarded a quarter-final at Northants, the winners of the Midlands/West/Wales Division, on July 29.
But a bigger prize awaits next June, when Hampshire will be one of nine teams in the P20’s top flight.
Chairman Rod Bransgrove said: “At the start of the season, the minimum requirement we set ourselves was qualification for the P20 first division.
“We’ve had some high moments and one or two difficult games so would like to be more consistent, but we did what we needed to do at Essex.
“Now we’re in the first division we can start planning for next year.
“A lot is yet to be revealed, but we know that we’ll be allowed more overseas players and England players will be available as well. That means we’ll be right up there as one of the best sides in the country.
“We’ve already spoken to a number of players. It’s too early to reveal who they are but we’ll have a fantastic side.”
