Hampshire’s Glenn Maxwell was involved in a thrilling high-scoring Ryobi Cup tie for Victoria against Tasmania today.

Maxwell struck 42 as Victoria rattled up an imposing 348-6 off their allocated 50 overs – David Hussey hitting 100 and Aaron Finch (63), Rob Quiney (53) and Cameron White (40) all joining in.

Tasmania were eventually dismissed for 323, with George Bailey and Ed Cowan both hitting 74. Maxwell took 0-14 off his two overs.

Maxwell had hit 51 – his sixth first class half-century – in Victoria’s drawn Sheffield Shield game with Tasmania last week.

Former Aussie Test captain Ricky Ponting was in top form for Tasmania, hitting an unbeaten 162 in the first innings and 60 not out in the second.
