DANNY Briggs has been selected for two England one-day tours Down Under in the new year.

The 21-year-old Hampshire spinner has been named in the England squad for three t20 internationals against New Zealand next February.

The Isle of Wight-born star has also been chosen for the 15-man England Lions squad - alongside Hampshire teammate James Vince - for the one-day tour of Australia which partly overlaps with Briggs’ New Zealand commitments.

England’s three t20s against the Kiwis take place between February 9-15 with the eight-game ODI tour of Australia running from February 7 to March 1.

Briggs will miss the first three games of the Lions tour – one match against Victoria 2nds and two against Victoria – while the first of five games against Australia A takes place the day after England’s last t20 in New Zealand.

Briggs has made one ODI appearance for England, taking 2-39 against Pakistan in Dubai last February.

He has appeared in three t20 internations, the last on coming last week when his one over against India cost 18 runs.

Briggs was then left out of the second t20 international, which England won thanks to a half-century from ex-Hampshire man Michael Lumb and Eoin Morgan hitting the last ball for six.

Briggs’ former county colleague Kevin Pietersen has been rested for England’s one-day and t20 squads for the tour of New Zealand.

The batsman was included in the 50-over party for the five-match series in India next month after his successful ‘reintegration’into the national set-up, but will not head to New Zealand as selectors look to manage the workload of key players.
