Despite sitting out the latest round of matches, Hampshire enjoyed a good day in Division Two of the County Championship.
Title rivals Worcestershire, who led Jimmy Adams’ men by just seven points ahead of this week’s games, were bowled out for 272 at home to Surrey, who reached 59 without loss at the close.
Essex, who have a game in hand on second-placed Hampshire – but also a 44-point deficit, skittled out visiting Kent for 198 (Sam Northeast making 117) but struggled to 97-4 in reply.
