David Balcombe has signed a two-year deal with former county Surrey.

The seamer left Hampshire after turning down a one-year offer to stay at The Ageas Bowl.

He spent eight seasons with the county, the highlight of his career being the 8-71 he took against Gloucestershire at the start of the 2012 season, when he finished with 64 wickets at 26.1.

In all, Balcombe took 128 Championship wickets for Hampshire at 34.4.

The 29-year-old, who played for Surrey's Second XI before joining Hampshire, said: "It was a tough decision to make, but I think it’s in the best interests of my career to start a fresh chapter elsewhere.

"I will always hold fond memories of the club who gave me my first chance in the professional game and I’ll always be proud to have played for Hampshire.”

Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart said: "He is a bowler who came through the Surrey system and he will add both depth and experience to our squad."

Meanwhile, Hampshire have confirmed that Ruel Brathwaite has been released, as well as Michael Bates, as reported in Friday's Daily Echo.
