NATHAN Rimmington took a career-best 5-38 as Western Australia won their opening match of the Sheffield Shield season.
The seamer is being monitored by Hampshire and could sign as a non-overseas player courtesy of a British passport, having impressed during his brief stint with the county last season. Rimmington has only played 24 first-class matches in the last eight years but in his first four-day game since starring for Hampshire against Essex at Colchester in July, he took a career-best 5-38.
The second five-for of his career included the scalp of former Hampshire batsman George Bailey, the captain of Tasmania and Australia’s ODI team.
Rimmington finished with match figures of 7-90 as Western Australia beat Tasmania by seven wickets.
Elsewhere, an unbeaten 105 from former Hampshire all-rounder Dan Christian helped Victoria beat New South Wales.
