Adam Voges will return to Middlesex next season as captain of the County Championship team after agreeing to a one-year stint at Lord's.

The 35-year-old Australian – who counts Hampshire among his former counties – had a four-match spell with Middlesex in 2013 and has signed up for a new, longer stay this time after replacing his compatriot Chris Rogers as the county's overseas player.

Rogers is likely to be on Ashes duty next summer, ruling him out of another stint with Middlesex.

Eoin Morgan will continue to lead the team in short-format matches, Middlesex announced.

Voges has skippered Western Australia to Twenty20 and 50-over titles in the past year.

Voges, who has also played for Nottinghamshire, will aim to lift a team that finished only seventh in Division One of the LV= County Championship this year, narrowly avoiding relegation.

Voges said: “Obviously my aim for 2015 is to help lead the team towards success in all three formats of the game and I strongly believe we have a squad capable of doing that.”
