MICHAEL Carberry struck his first half century of the Australian KFC t20 Big Bash today - but still ended up on the losing side.

The Hampshire batsman hammered an unbeaten 69 off 48 balls for Perth Scorchers as they replied to Sydney Thunder’s 179-3 total.

Carberry struck eight fours and a six after entering the fray with Perth 27-2 after 3.4 overs.

Though he put on an unbroken 68 for the sixth wicket with Ashton agar (31no off 27 balls), Perth fell short on 159-5.

That leaves the Scorchers having won two and lost two of their four qualifying group games so far.

Earlier, South African Jacques Kallis had smashed 70 off 49 balls for Thunder with Aiden Blizzard (47), captain Mike Hussey (36no) and England ODI skipper Eoin Morgan (16no) also weighing in.
