HAMPSHIRE are giving a four-day trial to Devon's Ryan Stevenson.

The all-rounder will play in tomorrow’s Second Eleven Trophy game against Glamorgan and the Second Eleven Championship match that starts on Wednesday  against the same opposition, also on the Nursery Ground.

Seamer Stevenson, 23, has taken seven wickets at 30 apiece in his first five Minor Counties Championship appearances this season, as well as scoring 191 runs at 31.83.

He impressed Hampshire director of cricket Giles White, a fellow Devonian, with his pace last week during a match against Berkshire at Finchampstead in which he took 2-38 from 20 overs.

"Luckily I work for my mum in the Post Office at Ipplepen, otherwise it could have been difficult," Stevenson told the Torquay Herald Express.

White was at Finchampstead to watch some of his dual-registered players and catch up with old friends, including former Devon teammate Keith Donohue, Devon's current director of cricket.

"I saw Keith walking round the ground with someone I didn't know – and the next thing I know I am being asked to spend four days with Hampshire," said Stevenson.

"Had anyone suggested that to me this time last year, I would have thought they were bonkers."

Since signing for Torquay CC, Stevenson has taken 21 wickets at 15 apiece in the Devon Premier League this season.
