JAMES Vince has had leadership training at Sandhurst as he prepares to captain England Lions in Dubai next month.

The Hampshire captain is currently in the UAE with Liam Dawson at the England Performance Programme’s batting and spin camp.

He could lead the Lions in their five-match T20 series as a T20 international as he is also in the full England squad for the three-match series against Pakistan in Dubai from November 26-30.

Vince, whose solitary full international appearance came in an abandoned ODI against Ireland in May, has been preparing for a busy six weeks during which he hopes to boost his chances of making England’s World T20 squad.

He said: “We had a day at the Military Academy in Sandhurst which was about leadership, not just for me as captain but for everyone in the squad.

“We were out of our comfort zone, definitely, talking about something we weren’t 100 per cent confident about.

"That was the idea of the exercise.

“Most guys took something from the day.”

The two-and-a-half week EPP training camp began yesterday.

“I’ve been on a few Performance Programmes and last year’s was definitely the best, both out in Sri Lanka before Christmas and then with the Lions in South Africa,” continued Vince, who will miss the last week of the camp due to his inclusion in the main squad.

“Hopefully this year’s will be as good as that or even better. I really enjoyed the captaincy last year.

“Being a young captain when I started at Hampshire, you’ve got to get the balance right between taking info from the older guys and making decisions myself.

“Last year when I did the T20 I was probably always looking for advice but that’s not always the best way to go about it.

"I’ve been in the England squad a couple of times now and obviously the next step is to get into the team.

“There’s another chance to do that in the T20 games against Pakistan after we get to Dubai, and then we have the five games against Pakistan A for the Lions in December.

“It’s a great chance for all of us."
