An England Lions side including Hampshire trio James Vince, Liam Dawson and Reece Topley was beaten in the first of their five T20 matches against Pakistan A in Dubai.

Captain Vince was bowled for two in the second over after choosing to bat first at the ICC Global Cricket Academy, All-rounder Dawson made an unbeaten seven from five balls (one four) but the Lions were restricted to 145-6 despite Malan's 51 from 44 balls.

Vince's opening partner hit three sixes, while Sam Billings chipped in with 31 from 21.

But Pakistan A chased down their target with seven wickets and six balls to spare.

Hampshire new boy Topley (3-0-28-1) had Fakhar Zaman caught behind in his first over, before Jake Ball dismissed Shahzaib Hasan and Sohaib Maqsood in the space of three balls as Pakistan A were reduced to 25 for three.

But Pakistan A reached their target thanks to an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 124 in 14.2 overs between Iftikhar Ahmed (66*) and Babar Azam (53*).

There was no place in the side for Danny Briggs but Dawson, playing his first Lions match for nearly seven years, finished with 0-24 from three overs.

The second game in the series is on Thursday, the first of three under floodlights at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
