HAMPSHIRE batsman Michael Carberry is not playing in the current Specsavers County Championship match against Warwickshire as he is undergoing medical tests this week.

Carberry takes medication to manage the condition that causes life-threatening blood clots to form in lungs, which he was diagnosed with in November 2010

It caused him to miss that winter's England Lions tour, as well as a potential Ashes call-up and most of the 2011 season, and there are concerns it has resurfaced.

The 35-year-old, who has made 411 County Championship runs at 29.35 this season, including 48 and 59 against Durham last week, is not playing at Edgbaston so he can visit a specialist.

Dale Benkenstein, Hampshire’s first-team coach, told Cricket World: “He has had a problem that has not cleared up in the way we had hoped so he's going to have some tests done.

“We are hoping to have him back for the T20 matches later in the week but in view of what has happened to him in the past we do not want to take any risks with him.

“It is a little bit worrying but hopefully the tests will show that everything is fine.”

Only Liam Dawson has made more T20 runs for Hampshire than Carberry's 154 runs at 25.66 (strike rate 120.31).
