Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry continued his comeback from cancer with another half-century in Barbados - before Sean Ervine made an unbeaten ton.

Carberry followed his 58 against Nottinghamshire and his 41-ball 78 in the T20 thrashing of Durham University with 68 against Northamptonshire.

The former England opener, who was diagnosed with cancer last July, faced 101 balls and hit 12 fours and a six as Hampshire made 305-4 before Northants closed on 166-4.

He shared a second-wicket stand of 93 with Will Smith, who made 81 (129 balls), ten fours.

Both were dismissed by Rob Keogh's off-spin, but Ervine was unbeaten on 101, which he made from just 114 balls (seven fours, three sixes).

A quickfire 25 (20 balls) from Gareth Berg ensured Hampshire led by 139 runs at the close.

Berg (10-5-20-1) was the pick of the Hampshire bowlers, with Fidel Edwards (10-1-45-1) and Brad Wheal (7-1-20-1) also taking a wicket apiece.
