FIDEL Edwards is out of Hampshire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Somerset, which starts at Taunton on Friday.

The veteran West Indies fast bowler suffered a shoulder injury in the hammering at Essex last weekend.

So Reece Topley will be making his third first-class appearance for Hampshire as George Bailey’s side aims to bounce back from their innings-and-97-run capitulation at Chelmsford.

Hampshire have included all-rounder Ian Holland in a 13-man squad following the Australian’s impressive form for the 2nd XI. Jimmy Adams is also in contention.

They will be aiming to ensure that Somerset remain at the foot of the table, having slipped to fifth after taking a solitary point from Essex.

Head coach Craig White said: “One bad performance doesn’t make us a bad team.

“It’s been one bad game, the three before [in the Championship] were very good.

“Maybe we had a hangover from our one-day cricket where we didn’t do very well, so maybe there was a lack of confidence floating around, I don’t know.

“We’ll let the dust settle. We’ve had a blip, hopefully we’ll bounce back at Somerset. There is such a lot of cricket to come.”

Hampshire have also drawn twice since winning their opener at Yorkshire.
