Hampshire all-rounder Ian Holland has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at the Ageas Bowl until at least the end of the 2019 season.

The 27-year-old was outstanding in his first season in the Specsavers County Championship.

He had only played one first-class match before his Hampshire debut, for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield.

But after impressing in the 2nd XI, having started the season with South Wilts in the British Gas Southern Premier League, he played in eight of Hampshire's last nine Championship matches

'Dutchy' made 233 runs at 33.28 and took 19 wickets at 18.47, including match figures of 6-39 in only his second appearance for Hampshire, against Somerset.

Holland, who also made three limited-overs appearances for Hampshire last season, said: “I’m excited to have signed a new contract with Hampshire – I thoroughly enjoyed my first season with the first team and it’s great that the club have shown faith in me.

“I’m very much looking forward to contributing towards the team’s success moving forward and hopefully with the squad we have, we can really push on in all formats in 2018.”

A British passport holder, Holland won the Australian reality television show Cricket Superstar in Australia five years ago.

That earned him a contract with Victoria, where he had the likes of Dan Christian and John Hastings for competition.
