Hampshire have signed Australian record-breaker Glenn Maxwell as a third overseas player for the forthcoming Friends Life t20 tournament.
The 23-year-old had hoped to play for Hampshire as a non-overseas player, courtesy of his UK passport, after arriving from the Delhi Daredevils last month.
When the Victorian realised that would prevent him from adding to his 11 first-class appearances back in Australia, he concentrated on playing as an overseas player for South Wilts CC and Hampshire’s 2nd XI.
So he is delighted to have now signed for Hampshire as another overseas option, alongside Melbourne Renegades teammate Shahid Afridi and compatriot Simon Katich, after some impressive performances for Tony Middleton's side.
Last week, he hit a 31-ball century in a T20 game against MCC Young Cricketers, which is believed to be a world record.
