Rain dominates at Tunbridge Wells
4:04pm Thursday 7th June 2012 in Hampshire Cricket
The weather continued to dominate Kent's LV= County Championship match against Hampshire at Tunbridge Wells.
After a rain-ruined opening day restricted the action to just 15.1 overs, only 18.3 overs were sent down today before play was again abandoned with the visitors on 90 for three in their first innings.
After a prompt start Hampshire - resuming on their overnight total of 50 for three - went on to grind out a further 40 runs through fourth-wicket partners Simon Katich (43 not out) and Liam Dawson (22no).
The pair extended their partnership to an unbroken 53 runs before the rain came down shortly before the scheduled lunch break.
With heavy cloud cover and high humidity the conditions appeared ideal for seam and swing bowling - but the Kent attack rarely beat the bat.
The hosts left the field when the rain arrived clearly frustrated by the weather and the obdurate performances of Katich and Dawson.
