Hampshire legend Mark Nicholas reckons Michael Carberry should be in England’s Test squad next week – and that Jimmy Adams is also a contender to replace Andrew Strauss.
England will reveal Strauss’s replacement as Alastair Cook’s opening partner when they announce the party for the tour of India on Tuesday.
Nicholas believes it should be Carberry and that Hampshire captain Adams – LV County Championship division two’s top run scorer with 987 at 49.43 this season - is another one of four in the running.
A call-up for Carberry or Adams would come less than a week after Danny Briggs’s impressive Twenty20 international debut and two days after what could yet be the completion of a historic limited-overs cup double following tomorrow’s CB 40 final.
Former Hampshire captain Nicholas said: “I can see four who could come in but Michael Carberry would be my choice to replace Strauss.
Jimmy Adams is also an outstanding all-round cricketer, I’d be happy with him and he has a very good claim."
