Hampshire Academy prospect Tom Barber produced encourging bowling figures for England Under-19s in yesterday’s third ODI defeat by South Africa in Paarl.
The left-arm pace bowler had figures of 2-39 off his initial nine overs but, as South Africa rampaged 97 runs off the final ten overs, Barber's last six deliveries were hit for 17 runs.
He finished with a satisfactory 2-56 return as South Africa posted 270-8.
England fell ten runs short at 260-9, Academy team-mate Tom Alsop being trapped leg before wicket for four.
