The Hampshire Academy pulled off one of the surprise results of the season when they beat Havant in early June.

But, fielding a much changed side, they were unable to unable to repeat the dose in the final Time pennant match on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.

The Academy, who included the out-of-favour Michael Bates, posted a tidy 260-9, but were probably 30 or 40 short of setting Havant a challenging target and wre beaten by three wickets with time to spare.

Bates (60) top scored for the Academy, for whom Ryan Scott (54) also made a half-century, Michael Porter 33, and Oli Green and Luke Webb 26 each.

Havant, predictably, sent down 45 overs of spin – Stuart Ransley returning 3-32.

Lancing College leg-spinner Mason Crane (3-80) took three of the first four Havant wickets, but from 110-3, the six-times champions launched themselves into a winning position.

Missed early in his innings, Hindley (60) added 84 with Dubai-bound Chris Morgan (33) and another 51 with Ben Walker (30).

Havant lost two more wickets in the later stages of the run chase, but were comfortable three-wicket winners.
