Oli Green and Ryan Scott hit half-centuries and Matt King celebrated a four-wicket return as the Hampshire Academy toasted a 36-run SEPL victory over third-from-bottom Alton at the Jubilee Ground.

Left-hander Green’s half-century, made after skipper Jake George and Jack Mynott had gone cheaply, was his first since August 2012.

But, with Michael Porter (33) in support, it raised the Academy score from 29-2 to 106 before the former Bournemouth opener fell.

Green (62) became a second victim for spinner Jack Myers (2-47) at 135-4, but Scott (53) and Luke Webb (42) consolidated the Young Royals’ position, taking the total on to 214 before Julian Ballinger (3-55) triggered a collapse with five wickets falling for 25 runs.

Alton, chasing 239-9, began in similar fashion, losing both openers cheaply.

But Ryan Hale (46) and Scott Myers (63) added 99 before the skipper attempted to late cut leg-spinner Mason Crane (2-43) and chopped the bat through his stumps.

At 130-2, it was a timely breakthrough for the Academy and with Dewayne Bowden falling to Crane soon after, Alton lost their way.

King took the last two wickets as Alton crumbled to 203 all out.
