Pete Hopson’s first Premier Division century for three seasons swept Havant to a sixth successive win – and planted Lymington on the bottom of the ECB Southern Electric Premier League.

Hopson hit 108 as Havant, five-wicket winners, comfortably chased down a Lymington total of 227-7 built around Australia Under-19 batsman Damien Mortimer’s 93.

The New South Wales teenager, who has been struggling for form since arriving from Sydney, piloted Lymington just past the 200-mark before being dismissed seven runs short of his maiden century on English soil writes Mike Vimpany.

Mortimer received support from Ryan Scott (29) and Darren Cowley (39) as Havant sent down 50 of their 64 overs in spin, with Stuart Ransley (2-29), Chris Morgan (2-55) and Richard Hindley (2-63) taking six of the seven wickets to fall.

Lymington’s total was probably 50 short of what they ideally wanted and, once Hopson and Ben Walker (31) launched the run chase with a half-century opening stand, a sixth straight Havant victory was likely.

Hopson, whose last Premier League century came against Andover in June 2011, hit 12 fours on his way to 108 before being dismissed with Havant within touch distance of victory.

After young Harry Hovey (27) had played his part, Ransley (24) and Hindley (16) got Havant comfortably across the line.
