Hong Kong Twenty20 World Cup international Babar Hayat fell just short of a Hampshire League double century.

He smashed a six-strewn 191 not out as Bishop’s Waltham piled up a massive 320-5 before strengthening their position as unbeaten County Division 3 South leaders with a 250-run win over Portsmouth seconds at St Helen’s, Southsea.

Hayat, whose 35 appearances for Hong Kong include playing in this year’s ICC T20 in Bangladesh and more recently in the ICC Cricket World Cup in Malaysia, hit nine sixes and 17 fours in his Southsea seafront knock which lasted only 117 balls.

The 22-year-old has appeared for Hong Kong in two officially recognised one day internationals, hitting 53 against Afghanistan at the beginning of May.

He played in three T20 World Cup ties earlier this year against Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, but only managed 26 runs in total.

Local boy Gareth Lovett made 49 as Bishop’s Waltham reached 320-5 before shooting Portsmouth out for 70, Pete Boston taking five wickets for six runs.

Waltham didn’t have it all their own way as their second team lost by five wickets to County 4 South rivals Wickham, who chased down 214-9, with Chris Martin (103 not out) and Martin Rowe (80) to the fore.

Harry Draycott hit an unbeaten 130 as Wellow & Plaitford overhauled a South Wilts score of 243-5, while Sam Freemantle (108) and Tom Farley (73) shared a stand of 172 as Sarisbury Athletic III beat Paultons II.

Hythe & Dibden’s Jonjo Stovell made 129 not out as the Watersiders piled up 287-2 against Emsworth.

Conor Patterson hit 145 as Langley Manor IV reached 319-5 before restricting Whiteparish II to 229-9.
