Burley 2nds passed 400 for the first time in the club’s history as they trounced Bashley (Rydal) V by 283 runs in Regional Division 3 South West of the Hampshire League.

Ian Edworthy and Alex Martin both smashed centuries in the record breaking performance.

Put into bat by the visitors, Burley were quickly into their stride with openers Edworthy and Michael Moorman putting on 173 before Moorman (60) was forced to retire hurt when he pulled a muscle in his side, having hit eight fours and a six.

The high scoring rate was maintained by Edworthy and Martin until Edworthy was out at 281 having struck 21 fours in his 137, his second successive century.

Andy Dillworth (26 no) joined Martin and the pair added another 126 before Martin was bowled for 149, including 23 fours and five sixes.

The innings closed at 409-2 before shell-shocked Bashley lost wickets at regular intervals to Steve Moorman (3-38), Lee Cattanach (4-24) and Dillworth (3-17) and were all out for 126 in the 29th over with Anthony King (92) top scoring.
