St Cross Symondians beat Burridge by five wickets off the first ball of the last over at the Green Jackets Ground, where Jamie Richards and Matt Drakeley hit centuries for their respective sides.

They chased down a Burridge total of 249-9 to secure a third win of the season – despite losing skipper Billy Walsh with a fractured thumb during the afternoon session.

Richards, who joined Burridge from Liphook & Ripsley at the start of the season, underpinned his side’s 249-9 with a nine-boundary maiden ton.

On the flip side, off-spinner Jordan Finney celebrated his first five-wicket haul for the Winchester club, a 5-74 return off 24 overs.

Alas, Finney lost spin partner Walsh, who fractured his thumb stopping a fierce return drive from Burridge skipper Rick Ankers while he was bowling.

Walsh tried his best to bat – effectively one-handed – but soon retired hurt.

He left his team in capable hands, however, with Drakeley’s 117, which included a six and ten fours, taking St Cross to within touching distance of their victory target.

But it wasn’t all down to Drakeley – James Brooke struck a typically breezy 60 and Tom Foyle a lively 24 as St Cross won off the first ball of the 57th and last over.
