South Australia prospect Cameron Valente unleashed a torrent of sixes and fours as Totton & Eling smashed 130 runs off the last ten overs to finish only ten runs ten runs behind Havant’s daunting 314-8 at Southern Gardens.
With their reply at 174-4 and the game heading for a dull draw, the exciting Adelaide teenager – by far the most successful of the three Australia Under-19 players in the Premier League this season – proceeded to smash the ball to all parts.
He hit six sixes and ten fours in a blistering 113 not out.
Josh Metcalfe (43) and Luke Evans (39) joined in the fun as the Eels finished at 304-6.
One more over might have taken them to victory.
Earlier, Ben Walker (97) and Harry Hovey (58) top scored for Havant, with Valente taking 4-67.
St Cross Symondians held out for a draw at 192-9 after 16-year-old left-hander Ben Duggan had made a best-yet 83 for Ventnor at Newclose.
Ventnor posted 252-7 with Oli Mills (52), Jake George (46) and Marc Antony Eysele (33) in support.
Richard Taylor’s unbeaten 41 helped Symondians’ defiant last pair add 30 runs and deny Ventnor victory.
