Tom Morton hit an unbeaten century as cup holders South Wilts booked their place in the Ageas Bowl Southern Electric twenty20 final with a 20-run victory over Sarisbury.

Morton completed his hundred off the final ball of South Wilts’ 189-3.

He hit four sixes and nine fours in his 100 not out, sharing a half-century start with left-hander Tom Pearce (18) as South Wilts punished some ordinary new ball bowling.

Charlie Esson (18), Ryan Burl (22) and Joe Cranch (17 not out) weighed in as South Wilts put the game just out of Sarisbury’s reach.

Nonetheless, Sarisbury made a decent fist of their response and, after losing Jonathon Norris (17) and Pete Hammond (8) to the leg spin of Jake Foley (3-40), had 79-2 on the board after nine overs.

Kieran Geyle (33) took a distinct liking to Ryan Bur’s leg spin, twice hoisting his Zimbabwe Under-19 teammate into the nearby allotments.

Matt Journeaux (22) and Jack Lovett (21) did their bit, but Sarisbury were always behind the run rate and with wickets being lost – teenager Jack Richards (3-32) took three as five went down for 14 runs – South Wilts took a firm grip.

Sam Floyd smashed three big sixes in the final over as Sarisbury closed a creditable 169-9 and a third successive semi-final defeat.

Totton & Eling pair James Taylor and Cameron Valente peppered the Southern Gardens boundaries as the Eels chased down Waterlooville’s 208-2 to clinch a place in the Southern Electric twenty20 Plate final.

Taylor cracked an unbeaten 104 off 55 balls and South Australian Valente 87 from 52 deliveries as Totton won with three balls to spare. They will play New Milton – six-wicket winners over Hook & NB – in the Plate final on August 17.

Waterlooville’s 202-2, built around Jon Hudson (54), Sam Hillman (62) and Warren Ekstraal (69 not out), looked competitive.

But after Tom Arnold had gone cheaply, Totton took over.

Taylor hit three sixes and 14 fours, while Valente smashed an extraordinary 84 of his 87 runs in boundaries, six of them maximums.

New Milton’s six-wicket win over Hook at Fernhill was comfortable in the extreme.

Teenager George Watts (3-21), Lee Beck (2-27) and Nick Elliott (2-4) took the bowling credits as Hook were dismissed for 93.

Nick Park (24) and Nick Elliott (17 not out) eased New Milton in the final at Southern Gardens.
