Ben Duggan fired a second consecutive ECB Southern Electric Premier League century as the Hampshire Academy went on an Ageas Bowl run spree before beating Alton.

The Island-based left-hander followed up his match-winning hundred against Burridge a week earlier with an equally fine 103 which underpinned the Academy’s eventual 91-run success on the Nursery Ground.

He shared a double-century third-wicket partnership with Brad Taylor (71) as the Academy ran up a thumping 318-9 in the last of the first batch of 50-over pennant games.

The Cowes teenager, who only joined the Academy this past winter, hit a six and eight boundaries in his second hundred in seven days.

His stand with Taylor, who has made scores of 50 or more three times this season, guided the Academy to 254-2 before Julian Ballinger (3-72) and teenager Dan Scott (3-41) took late wickets.

But Ben Caldera (35) and Mason Crane (23 not out) took the game well beyond Alton’s reach.

“Unlike the Burridge game when Felix (Organ) and myself had to counter-attack a mini-collapse, there was no real pressure this time,”

Duggan explained.

“Although Joe (Weatherley) and Tom (Alsop) went relatively cheaply, I was able to go out and play with confidence and enjoy myself.

“I'm seeing it nicely and been hitting it well in nets so it's nice to take that out into the middle.”

Any slim hope Alton had of mounting a challenge disappeared when a double strike by Ryan Murray (2-16) and a caught behind off Tom Barber (2-43) had the visitors reeling at 19-3.

Jack Myers (58), with his maiden SPL fifty, and Michael Heffernan (38) steadied the ship as the Academy sent down 28 overs of spin in a bid to winkle wickets.

Ben Mortimer hit 45 as Alton reached 227-9 by stumps.
