Whiteley match report
12:53pm Sat 23 Feb 08
Whiteley Juniors 1 - 1 Townhill Emperors
After the first match defeat, Townhill made it clear from the start they were looking for revenge - mounting wave after wave of attack. The Whiteley team held well, with the team dropping back and defending for long periods and it was to Whiteley's relief and Townhill's frustration that the half finished even a 0 - 0. The second half started where the first had left off as Townhill continued to seek the break through. Whiteley also showed signs of coming off of the back foot and started to push forward but were then caught as another Townhill attacked surged through to finally beak the deadlock and take the lead. Whiteley, however, were not in the mood for defeat today, and going a goal down seemed to be the spur required to bring out the extra bit of effort. In a move starting on the right, Whiteley moved forward as a team. Callum Amos provided the final ball across the area and Sam Fisher slotted the ball home with a fine first-time shot to level the game. The match remained finely balanced as both teams chased the winning goal but the final whistle brought the game to an end with the scores still even at one a-piece.

Townhill Emperors 0 - 1 Whiteley Juniors
In another back-to-back weekend Whiteley faced a clash with close league table rivals. Townhill Emperors. Wide Lane continued to treat us to it's mixed bag of weather serving up a field of frozen pitches for the early start - but a fine sunny morning ensured that there would be play - even if it was a little delayed. This match was another close affair and both teams were keeping the cold at bay by mounting attack and counter-attack. Ten minutes into the game, Nick Bold took possession for Whiteley, inside his own half, and carried the ball forward at pace to the Townhill area. Defenders chased back to make a challenge but the ball whistled into the net to give Whiteley the lead and cap a great solo effort. Emperors fought back well and went close to equalising when they struck the post just before half time. The second half saw sustained pressure from Townhill as they sought the goal to bring them level, only to be thwarted by some fine goalkeeping by Thomas Butts and the Whiteley post yet again. Having weathered the storm, Whiteley attacked well only to be denied a second by a good save from the Townhill keeper.

Whiteley Juniors 0 - 0 Littleton Lions
This game was a close end to end affair befitting the close standing of the two teams in the league. Lion's attack looked strong from the outset and Whiteley defended well until a break through saw the Lions go ahead from a good shot. The teams continued to battle hard but it stayed the same until half time. The second half was a similar game to the first, with little to choose between the sides. Whiteley continued to chase the equalizer but Lions always seemed to have enough in defence to cope. Mid-half, Lions surged forward and placed a dangerous ball into the Whiteley area and then charged down the defensive clearance. The ball looped back off of the attacker and over the Whiteley keeper to give Lions a 2 - 0 lead. This was a very even game for the main part but Littleton Lions made the most of their chances to claim victory.

Littleton Lions 2 - 0 Whiteley Juniors
This weekend had Whiteley and Littleton Lions playing back-to-back fixtures and following the first match defeat, Whiteley had to raise their game. To their credit they managed to do just that and the play flowed from end to end as both teams sought to gain the advantage but failed to register a score. This was a very entertaining game to watch and whilst goal-mouth action was limited both teams were determined to hold on. Whiteley had the greater possession over the 30 minutes and certainly finished the stronger of the two teams but were just unable to turn that into goals - the game ending all square. Whiteley's Man-of-the-Match for his excellent running and tackling for the two games was Chris Deveney.

Whiteley Juniors 0 - 0 Michelmersh & Timsbury
After last weeks close match, the Whiteley team were keen to get something from this game. M&T signalled their intentions from the start with some direct play but Whiteley were passing well and looked dangerous. With little to choose between the two teams, the game was a mid-field battle in which Whiteley's Callum Amos, Will Chitty and Ed Ditchburn were constantly involved. Mid-half, Whiteley broke down the right and Nick Bold fired in a shot which had "goal" written on it. Unfortunately, the M&T keeper had other ideas and produced a stunning finger-tip save as he dived to his right and put the ball past the post. With the half drawing to a close Thomas Butts produced an equally fine save for Whiteley as M&T looked to gain the advantage. Half time 0 - 0. Whiteley kicked-off the second half which proved to be as enthralling as the first. Each team continued to battle for mid-field supremacy and the elusive winning goal. Sam Fisher went close for Whiteley but the M&T keeper showed he was, once again, equal to the task. At the final whistle honours remained even, both teams having contributed to a fine game of football. With a team of good individual performances on the day, Callum Amos was voted Whiteley's Man-of-the-Match over the two games.

Whiteley Juniors 4 - 0 Winsor Sports
In a re-run of fixtures played last week, Whiteley and Winsor came together again - and whilst the sky was bright the now familiar Wide Lane "Mistral" made conditions tough for all. Whiteley started brightly with Matt Caunt going close early on and Sam Fisher hitting the bar a few minutes later. As the players adjusted to the conditions Whiteley kept the ball on the ground and some neat passing saw Sam Fisher add to his growing tally, giving Whiteley the lead. More of the same saw Ed Ditchburn play a great ball through the middle for Matt Caunt to latch onto and score Whiteley's second. With the pressure maintained, Whiteley continued to threaten and Will Chitty saw a long shot go wide, before Sam Fisher scored his second following a good move, once again, started by Ed Ditchburn. Half-time : Whiteley 3 - Winsor 0. The second half saw some team changes and Whiteley took up from where they left off, however, Winsor held firm and looked dangerous when Tomas Butts was forced to rush from his goal to clear a break-away attack. As Whiteley pushed for the finish, both Callum Amos and Daniel Knowles went close and Nick Bold was unlucky to see his effort come back off the bar. Ed Ditchburn completed a good game by battling though the middle to score Whiteley's fourth

Winsor Sports 2 - 4 Whiteley Juniors
Whiteley started off well with Sam Fisher forcing two good saves from the Winsor keeper early in the first half. Little did they know that it was a fore-runner of things to come. With play levelling out between the teams, Winsor then made a breakthrough and took the lead. Whiteley were struggling to get their passing game together, but on the one occasion they did in this half , Ed Ditchburn was on hand to score the equaliser. Sam Fisher finally opened his account in the first minute of the second half and Whiteley were hoping to build on their good start when Winsor broke through to level the scores at 2 - 2. With time ticking away, Whiteley finally got their game together and despite the Winsor keeper making many fine saves, Sam Fisher claimed two more goals to complete his hat-trick and give Whiteley the points. Whiteley's Man-of-the-Match over the two games this week was Matt Galpin, who once again put in two great defensive performances.

Michelmersh & Timsbury 2 - 1 Whiteley Juniors
With both teams on the same points total, this was always going to be a close affair. Whiteley started well and held the early advantage, however, M & T were soon in the match and the game flowed from end to end. With little to choose between the teams, M & T produced a good long throw to put them in a position to take the lead which they held to half time. The second half was equally tight with Whiteley looking for a goal to level things up. They were rewarded when, from a corner kick, Nick Bold struck home a good left foot shot after his initial right footed effort had been blocked. M & T pushed forward but Thomas Butts was strong in goal and it looked like ending up a draw. However, in the last minute of the game, M & T were awarded a free kick which was hit powerfully from distance and initially appeared to hit the bar and bounce back into the keepers arms. The ball, however, was adjudged to have crossed the line and with barely time left to restart M & T claimed the win.

Whiteley Juniors 1 - 3 Alresford Town A
Whiteley were aware, from the previous match with Alresford, that it was going to be a tough encounter. From the start, Alresford's attacking play was matched by Whiteley's determined defence. Having weathered the early pressure, Whiteley started to push back and opened their account on 7 minutes, when a Matt Galpin long shot caught the Alresford keeper unsighted to give Whiteley the lead. Alresford went looking for the equalizer but Thomas Butts made a fine save to keep Whiteley ahead. After 12 minutes Alresford took a short corner on the right and were level following a fine left foot drive. Half time Whiteley 1 - Alresford 1. The second half saw Alresford attacking with the wind behind them and despite a good display from Whiteley's goalkeeper and defence, Alresford took the lead after some fine individual play on the left. Whiteley worked hard to get back on level terms but were finally undone by an unstoppable Alresford free kick just before full time. Callum Amos was Whiteley's Man-of-the-Match, reflecting his great contribution over the 2 games played.

Whiteley Juniors 3 - 0 Bitterne Terriers Blues
Whiteley attacked into the wind from the kick-off - Bitterne putting up some strong defence to hold Whiteley at bay for most of the first half. Sam Fisher went close on several occasions and saw his best effort hit the post after 13 minutes of play. With half-time looming Ed Ditchburn took possession and rammed home a good right foot drive to make the score 1-0 to Whiteley. The second half saw the Whiteley team string some good passing together. One nice passage of play down the right led to Daniel Knowles firing home a well deserved second goal. Whiteley maintained the pressure and were further rewarded when Ed Ditchburn scored his second of the game to bring the score line to 3-0. A flurry of activity towards the end could have seen Whiteley increase their advantage but the Bitterne keeper made a fine save from Sam Fisher whilst both Matt Caunt and Matt Galpin saw their efforts hit the post.
