EASTLEIGH have abandoned their quest to sign central defender Tom Jordan after having a THIRD offer rejected by manager Ian Baird's old club Havant.
Having made two failed bids before Christmas, the Spitfires went back for a third time on Wednesday, but Havant secretary Trevor Brock said: "They want to buy a Rolls Royce for Mini money and it's not going to happen."
Since resigning as Havant captain and openly declaring his desire to join Eastleigh last month, Jordan - son of ex-Saint Joe - has lost his place in the Havant side and, according to Brock, is unlikely to play for the club again.
And such is the 26-year-old's determination to link up again with Baird that he has rejected overtures from Blue Square Premier outfit Salisbury City - even though they would fulfil his desire to play in a higher league.
Eastleigh boss Baird shrugged: "Obviously Havant can afford to let him sit and do nothing. They must have an embarrassment of riches player-wise and they must be financially fat.
"It's disappointing for us, but we've drawn a line in the sand with this one now.

"I was led to believe that the price for Tom would be £10,000, but all of a sudden that price has doubled.
"I know for a fact that Tom's been offered to another club for £10,000.
"It seems there's one price for Eastleigh and one for everyone else."
Brock, though, dismissed that suggestion, saying: "Apart from Eastleigh, no one else has offered any money because the player won't even talk to another club. Salisbury enquired about taking him, but he didn't want to talk to them - and yet this is a player that Eastleigh haven't spoken to!
"It's all very fishy. They've boxed us into a corner by securing everything behind the scenes and then coming in with an offer and expecting us to take it."

So the H&W want 20K then. Interesting, because a few weeks ago Brock said they wouldn't sell him for £100,000. What a ridiculous thing to say that was.
Seems a couple of people at H&W are more concerned about petty disagreements + politics and being seen not to bow down to horrible beastligh football club rather than common sense and actually doing what is financially best for Havant + Waterlooville - their own club. Why can't they just agree a fee and move on and let the geezer Tom Jordan play some football on a Saturday afternoon. What a load of c0bblers.
Still wouldn't suprise me if he went to Eastleigh next week and then H & W can claim some sort of moral victory and Brock will obviously feel like hes been the tough guy.
In the longer term this is bad publicty for H&W not following a players wishes. Certainly if I was a young aspiring player I would not choose H&W knowing they would be awkward if and when I wanted to move.
Look at what Eastleigh did with Damo Scannell, that is a great example for other clubs to follow.

So many people who seem to be in posession of the full facts!
Whatever the outcome, it's now abundantly clear that Eastleigh cannot simply stamp feet, whine and moan, blow smoke and hot air in all directions and then get what they want. The player is contracted, the approaches seem to be designed to disrupt to the maximum each time; yes there may be an element of stubborn behaviour at H&W, but can't say I'm surprised!

If he thought he might have wanted to leave why sign a 2 year contract in the first place.
I hope Havant can afford to not sell him and not play him as it would serve the greedy git and Eastleigh right.

Hang on, from what I gather a clause was written into Scannell's contract allowing him to leave for £5000 if a bid was forthcoming, so Eastleigh had no option but to let him go.
Nothing to do with being a sympathetic club.
And are you seriously saying that any player that is unhappy with his lot should be allowed to just walk away from a contract that had only been recently signed. I thought only Managers could do that!!!!

I dont really care about Eastleigh or Havant. But it does seem to me that Eastleigh are a wealthier club than Havant. So its only natural that a any player would want to move to that club. Sorry Havant get over it. Mr Brock see sense let the player go. This is Non League football not league and 10k is a lot!!
As for Boomerang comments getting personal makes you look the retard not who ever this Rendels

Here Here Baz. Scannell had it written into his contract that he could go if any offer of £5,000 was logged and Southend did so meaning he was granted permission to move on. Nothing at all linked to Eastleigh letting him go and understanding his footballing career - they had no choice. Tom Jordan has just started a 2 year contract. Although i have to say i can't be bothered myself and if Eastleigh have indeed offered £10,000 and that is the price we quoted then i'd let him go and ensure he can't play against us for the remainder of the season. At least it'd be money in Havants pocket - the player could move on and we could draw a line under the affair once and for all.

the only club that comes out of this sorry saga stinking is eastleigh and all credit to havant for standing up to them - if they can afford to let jordan rot in the stands for at least the rest of this season all the best to them
