EASTLEIGH boss Ian Baird hopes his side's incredible second half comeback against Maidenhead represents a "defining" moment in their season.
Baird said he had to issue some strong words to his players at half-time, as they stared a 2-0 deficit in the face.
In fact, the Eastleigh manager said they were lucky not to be trailing by SIX.
However, his team talk appeared to work wonders, as the Spitfires came out with all guns blazing after the break and turned the game around to win 3-2.
Paul Sales' dramatic overhead kick late on sealed the win - Eastleigh's fifth in their last seven league matches - and lifted the Spitfires to fourth.
"I cannot understand our first-half performance," said Baird. "We were totally lacklustre and it's unexplainable.

"We were 2-0 down but in reality, to be blunt, we should have been 6-0 down, we were that bad.
"As bad as we were for the first 45 minutes, we were very good for the second 45 and it was a special one for the winner.
"I was very pleased with each and every one of them and hopefully that can be a defining win for us."

I was there to see yet another entertaining win by the Spitfires. Come on, remaining Saints fans and ex-fans, it's much more fun and a family atmosphere at Eastleigh! And only a tenner a game...

Great comment, Andy, but I have known your remarks are true for several years as an Eastleigh fan. Yes, a great atmosphere, friendly crowd and superb facilities. I hope your rallying words have the right effect, especially when Saints are away. Those who missed Saturday's game missed a cracker..and I now have to drive 80 miles to follow the Spitfires ![bold]bold[/bold]

I gave my 8 year old and his mate the choice, Saints v Ipswich or Spitfires v Maidenhead, it was a no brainer to them. The Spitfires did not let us down.
Come and watch some decent footie.

My Eastleigh footy days were confined to Pirellis after the WWII and to come across this page with a tenner entry to local game surprised me, where do Spitfires play? For what it is worth from 12000 miles more power to your elbow and hope at least a promotion

Hardly given away "non leaguer"
Eastleigh raise well into 6 figures in sponsorship per year. As part of the package sponspors pay for they receive some season tickets. So the real figure which is counted every week is indeed the 600-700 people that are in the silverlake every week.
Rather than knock it, why don't you pop along and give it try. Anfield is a heck of a long way to go to see a game.
waxrose - we play in stoneham lane. Non league has come on a hell of a way in the last few decades - the standard, facilites avaiable, levels of sponsorship etc etc. There is even a multi million pound tv deal for non league footie nowadays. The £10 Eastleigh charge is standard for the level they play at.
It might be worth a trip back from Aus to see us in the playoffs in a few weeks pal :-)

Waxrose you might have known Eastleigh in the early days a Swaythling Athletic which played at Ten Acres in Stoneham lane. Before that they played up at the common then moved to mansbridge/swaythlin
g and played in Walnut Ave. Before moving to ten acres now Silverlake stadium

Think you'll find that's it's six FREE season tickets GIVEN away to each sponsor whether they are used or not on match day are counted and as FC has more sponsors than fans it does distort your gates dramatically.
As for giving it a go at your place the couple of occasions that i have been up have been very flat atmosphere wise and i prefer it at other clubs where the attendance figure when given out does not raise laughter.

Hardly free when you've paid several K in sponsorship are they?
I suppose my bus travel is free too (after I've paid £400 for a season ticket) is it!?
If the tickets aren't used then they are not counted as part of the crowd. Only people at the match are counted as part of attendance.
Still I guess one twerp posting comments out of 15 ain't too bad for an EFC thread.
Up the spitfires, heres to 3 points on sat v Hayes + Y.

I can see the offer now, give us several K for some season tickets, no it's a little obvious what all that is about is try to give your figures a decent sheen when in the real world they are diabolical.
As far as i'm aware i'm not yet a pregnant fish, as people now have to click an Eastleigh link on this site (somewhere near sailing and competitive cooking i think) that enables your three or four EFC posters to live in some kind of shangri-La on here as who (apart from me obviously) is going to put any effort in to read the tilted propaganda that emanates from your club.

For someone that dosen't support Eastleigh F C you seem to think you no alot or assume you do.
Who are you a ex sponsor/player/staff
/supporter shell i go on.
I am in no doute that tickets are counted but even though they don't all get used the amount of supporters in the ground are counted.
If your not a Eastleigh fan WHY are you so concerned or just jealous

far be it for me to stick up for Eastleigh ,but I doubt that there is a club in the country thatbdoesn't include all its season ticket holders in their given crowds , and I can't see whats wrong with giving sponsors a season ticket(s), we put an advert in WCFC programme and as part of that they give us a season ticket , if someone wants to pump a load of money at Doswell and Baird to waste , then surely they ought to allowed to see that happen :-)

Maybe it's nonleaguer as that is what i watch instead of waiting for fifteen years for a ticket to an Anfield game!
Every time that i've gone to see the doubtfires i've come away thinking "are they serious about trying to take his club into national football" it'll be laughed at up and down the country. Compare the running of your club to Salisbury and theres no comparison, compare your matchday atmosphere(?) to them or even Farnboro, Bashley or even Win city on a good day. All of those seem to be real clubs as opposed to a fabricated one such as yourselves, maybe a bit harsh but that is what it feels like when Eastleigh experience is compared with others i'm afraid.

Jos , the problem was I got so far before I realised what I had posted , I was quite pleased with the way I dragged it back there !!!
I'm not going to comment on the atmosphere at the Scrapyard , but to say the atmosphere at Bashley/Win City is a bit odd , both clubs are ones that I have a soft spot for , mainly because the atmosphere is DIFFERENT ,Bash , the atmosphere is what I remember the old DML southern being, and Win City is lovely when you've got earplugs in

Why do i have to be a sad old anything? Can't i just be a neutral supporter that gets around non-league grounds? Does such a neutral opinion scare you that much that you have to look for subversive reasons for it?
I think it says more about EFC than it does about any other club mentioned when someone is quoted as saying that i must be an ex EFC fan for saying honestly what i think is wrong with the club, what a mad statement, surely if you support a team wherever that team is you do not stop supporting them, it may become latent support but how can anyone be an ex-fan unless it involves a fabricated club looking to attract anyone to a game due to lack of a fanbase. How many ex Farnboro, Salisbury, Bashley, Winchester, H&W fans do you think are out there. That was a very insightful comment on what sort of club EFC has become.
Life is full of opinions that do not always concur with our own but that does not make them any less valid does it?

Just read online from the Bournemouth Echo that Lee Bradbury is to be unvieled as a Hawks player today. Decent signing there, might have to get down to one of your games Mark.

Maybe people might respect your comment if you gave your name.Instead of hidding behind Nonleaguer.
But i'm reading from your comments is someone who for some reason has a gripe with Eastleigh and assume he no all the answers
Ive been watch EFC for many years and what these Directors have done for this club are unbeleavable. We have to be one of the fastest growing club around concidering where we were 5 yrs ago in the crappy wessex lge.what gates do Wln city and Bashley get 100-150 if that.Concidering the amount of local clubs around this area i dowt if were ever get over 1,000 but you never no.
Maybe you can come down to Eastleigh and walk around the ground and have a count, but you seem happier watching the lower lges which to be honest is a awful standard of football now.
But cocidering that your not a Eastleigh fan and realy and truthfully you no jack about the club it's probably best to keep quiet on the situation

Saw the Bradbury comment on a thread below Mostyn being the prefered bidder.
As for the other post really not doing yourself any favours, the last time that i saw Bashley (v Chippenham) i was one of around 400 + and people around me was surprised that it was that low as it looked to be a good deal more. Winchester do get between 125-175 but generate a far better atmosphere than EFC, that alone should sadden you.
Never for a minute have i disputed what you say about the tremendous work put in by your directors in gaining sponsors, but lets face facts if they had not EFC would be in the Wessex now as it never looked as if the dream of decent crowds and league football was ever likely in reality but has been a superb example of style over substance.
There are plenty of non league clubs that with the backing of the sponsors that EFC have would see a siesmic change regarding ambition, can you imagine Farnboro or Basingstoke not playing to huge (when compared to yours)crowds and not having a realistic dream of league football.
Even Winchester's small gates show more promise if they were to ever get the backing that you have recieved would increase beyond what you currently play to, and look at Newport bottom of the league by a country mile and have been relegated since september and are still capable of pulling in 200+. These are football clubs to the bone and will always have the potential to be far far bigger than Eastleigh.
What will happen when the reality sets in and the money gets pulled out (which it surely will in, as we all know clubs fortunes are cyclonic in nature) will the people of Eastleigh even know or care?

Basingstokes average 07/08 gate this season524
Eastleighs ave 07/08 gate 663
Fanboro 06/07 474 full season
Need i say anymore.
Winchester had their chance with Dave Malone but they weren't as ambitious as him can't see it happening again.**** ground one of the worst playing surfaces in none lge football.and a few supporters in a bus shelter come on now get serious.
Newport i don't have a clue, but they don't have many other clubs to compete with do they.only one of the clubs you mentione is in our lge and their. in deep finantial difaculties.maybe they should all look at how our club is run
No matter what you say Eastleigh are improving every year and thats the differance between us and any club you've mentioned

sorry about this Jos,but according to Tony Kempsters site EFC crowds are down by 5 or 6% this season, but of course you've got a certain game on april 1st to help boost that !!!!!!!!

You lot might add another hundred ontop of our normal 600/700.now if you were Salisbury or Aldershot we might get excited for having a big gate. now they do have a great fan base.

How did you manage to miss so many points all at once Jos, that's a rare talent that you have there.
Nobody believes for a minute that your ave crowds are as printed anywhere, and not just neutrals like me either i've had some conversations with Eastleigh fans who also chuckled at some of the figures given by the club.
As far as Basingstoke are concerned what you say only reiterates my point that if they had the backing that you have had what would their crowds and expectations be then? If they are pulling in crowds in their current state not a million miles away from your (published) crowd figures.
Farnboro - did you type that with a straight face? they have pulled in crowds far in excess of yours this season and they are in southern league south and west division at the minute, what potential lies up there?
You might want to nip over to the Bath website who are incredulous at the figure given for that game (i was also there) where they reckoned that there were as many away fans as home fans (slightly over 100 on either side).
Whether or not they were counting me as an EFC fan i've no idea but i hope not!!
Standards in the southern league are from what i can tell from watching bashley are as strong as ever, they passed it around Chippenham as if they were not there and were desperately unlucky not to beat Kings Lynn with some of the best football that i've seen all season.
Mark, did Bradbury sign in the end?

Mr non league liverpool fan.
I for 1 am enjoying your posts as even Mr Hawk is agreeing with Jos:-)
But if you dont like our little bit on the Echo forum.Don't bother clicking on it.
You are the ultimate key boarder.
If as you say you have been down the 'lake.
You would have heard me.
Next time you are down.
We can count the crowd together.
Only trouble is,we are scoring so many goals at the moment we might not get all the way round.Befor we have to start again:-)
From a supporter of an upwardly minded football team that is going the right way.
If you fancy seeing/hearing a good atmosphere @ a ground come to Newport with us next week.
I happen to think that you are a person who went to the Sparshatts but has since lost the light;-)

Ahh Newport, should be a real treat for you. A proper footie club with good support, if a little over zealous at times (hope that your twelve travelling fans are not too intimidated by them).
I must have heard you at EFC as lets face it you could hear hear a pin drop there most times couldn't you.
Why is it that every-time someone differs from the party line coming out of Gulag Ten Acres that must make that person some sort of dissatisfied ex supporter or something, is there any other club in the country that could lay claim to so many ex fans? That in itself is very a strange default setting and i'm afraid it says more about your club than it does about anyone you would be saying it to.
Nearer to the truth would be the assumption that you are a small club with a lot of money, no shame in that and anyone connected with EFC should be shouting that "smallness" from the rooftops, but instead we are treated to some form of collective myopia that see's EFC having to pretend to be something they are not, you would gain far more respect if the former attitude was taken rather than the latter.

Jos only goes to Eastleigh FC cos he has never brought a ticket in his life. He gets a free season ticket every year. But then again, does Malone actually expect us to pay to watch that shower of poo?

Jos has gone quiet. Maybe he lost his keys on his way back from getting his dole money, buying a scratchcard, blowing the lot down the pub and losing his keys to his caravan.

There you go Loud & proud. Now you know my name. Saints season ticket holder, but go to EFC when Saints are away. Yes, you are well renowned for fabricating your attendance figures and one of your stewards (with a tash) told me that EFC hand out free tickets to long term fans to get them in the stadium. He also said that Jos hasn't paid for a ticket in twenty years. I arrest my case.

Season tickets have only been going for 3 yrs and i always paid my way not that it's got anything to do with you .Because i'm damb sure if you were given a free ticket for saints you certainly wouldn't turn it down

Jos, you sound very guilty? If it's a donation to get fans to come and see EFC i can understand that. Don't take this personally, but your spelling is awful.

See from your site that that some chickens look like they are coming home to roost, how long before budget cuts?
Jos, the whole world and it's mother know that EFC tell porkies with their attendance figures, why do you even bother denying it?
I personally could not give a stuff about who gave you the free tickets when o where but is it not a symptom in itself that that free tickets are so easy to come by in the first place, and yes you have so many free season tickets going around as they are given away to all the sponsors that many must lie unused, is that a healthy situation to have got yourselves in? Admit what you have done regarding the figures and figures will plummet making the club out to be less than truthful alienating many in the process, carry on regardless and it could well spell disaster for your club in the long term.

I guess youre talking about Malone expecting the fans to stump up for half the mony to build a cover at the silverlake ?
well,if they hadn't wasted 10k on Holgate, had to pay Havant 20k min for Baird, had to pay off Phil Handford then they would've had enough to build it and put some terracing in

There is no denying that Eastleigh have wasted alot of money on CRAP signing this season. which that money was probably put aside for ground up grading but had to be used to bring in replacement players ie Floodlights that the chairman ended up paying for which i'm sure the money had been raised from the devears auction.
On a serious note do you realy think that Eastleigh are going to hype their gate receipts and declare them to the tax man.
Dorchesters gate on tuesday was very low because no season tickets were counted.
Were you there on tuesday because no one has questioned the attendance of 1,255.
Do you have inside imformation as to how many complimentary tickets are given out and how many people have "paid" for season tickets ?
Because season ticket holder have to be counted because they've already paid for each home game.
Fair play to anyone who can get a free ticket and all it seem is that a little bit of jealousy from yourself to this person

Of course i'm jealous, would'nt you be? Or are you (nameless Big Boy) in on the deal aswell? I'll take any free ticket i can get, rather than having to pay. Got a big feeling that Big Boy works or is connected in some way to the club, cos there's an awful lot of butt-lickin going on in that post?
