Portsmouth FC to be bought by Sulaiman Al Fahim

PORTSMOUTH Football Club are apparently on the verge of being bought by an Arabian tycoon.

Sulaiman Al Fahim is believed to be attending the Champions' League final in Rome this evening as a guest of Pompey owner Alexandre Gaydamak.

Al Fahim was behind the takeover of Manchester City Football Club by the Abu Dhabi United Group, of which he is a board member.

Acording to reports from the Middle East, the Al Fahim, who hails from the United Arab Emirates, has had a growing interest in the Premier League since the deal which made Man City the most cash rich club in the world.

He is also a UN Goodwill Ambassador, the star of the programme The Hydra Executives, which is the Arab version of The Apprentice and author of the best-selling book Brand Builder.

Portsmouth are in a dire financial situation and spent most of this season fearing relegation from the Premier League.

They have also had to abandon a number of high profile plans to build new a new stadium, first near the Naval dockyard and more recently near a former rubbish tip on Horsea Island.

Instead they have now said they intend to redevelop the cramped and dilapidated Fratton Park into a 30,000 seater stadium.

High profile players such as Sol Campbell, Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson have been widely expected to leave this summer.

I would sooner have a premier league team in a rubbish stadium than a div 1 team in a decent stadium. If this turns out to be true this fella is a billionaire so presumably paying for a new stadium would be a weeks pocket money for him.

Didn't take long for us Saints fans to show our envy did it?

If this happens we will be the poor relations for a very long time.

I can't understand how Pompey was brought off of Manderic for £35m...they need a new stadium and a new training ground. Saints had all of this but still no one invested. There's only one person who is to blame for this and I dare not mention his name for fear of exploding in rage!!

What's so wrong with the South Coast?

Oh I get it, you wrote it wrong mate.

having been a fan for longer than i care to rememeber, been to all those div4 games, wembly and europe this season, i would hate for us to have a following of fan that have no connection with the city.

The same Chelsea that finished 3rd in the Premier League this season and 3rd/4th in the Champions League?

Money can help with success, but Chelsea were already a relatively big club. Man City are struggling to attract top players and they are a bigger club than Pompey. If Kaka wouldnt go to Man City, there is no hope in hell players of his calibre would want to play football in a shed! Players like that want to play in top stadiums with top training facilities and that is something Pompey cannot provide at the moment.

I can understand why Pompey are a more attractive proposition than us at the moment and to be honest, it is really only down to the division they are in.

Yes this may mean that Pompey will be the best team in Hampshire for a long time coming, but who was the better team for the majority of years that we were both on an even keel (ie no rich sugar daddy pumping money into the club). Pompey have landed on their feet with their owners since Mandaric walked in, whereas we have gone backwards with a bad set up which has prohibited us from being targetted by any of the worlds 'richest' people.

They are in the FA Cup Final this weekend are they not?! Would that not constitute a successful season? And we all know it should have been a United vs Chelsea final last night! The new owner of Pompey has a chance to start with a blank canvass, new training facilities, new stadium, a new team following the exit of all the dead wood like lauren and traore etc! Pompey are going places and that WILL attract the bigger players... Wait and see!

In reply to the above post from a "pea brain". At best, you'll have a better chance of staying in the premiership. Top players will still prefer to place for Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal. Yes, seeing will be believing.....all this silly money will "gut" your club of it's identity. The rough supporters won't be able to attend games.

Just got off the phone after talking to Mr Al Fahim and he explained the reasoning behind his purchase of Pompey. Apparently Man city have experienced problems with some of their expensive foreign signings failing to settle quickly in a cold and wet sh*t-hole like Manchester. So they set about looking to purchase another club located in a more southerly sh*t-hole where they could bring in foreign players for a season to get them used to living in such conditions. After a season at Portsmouth the players will then be moved on to Man City where, having already got used to living in a sh*t-hole, they will only need to adjust to the weather. So there you have it - Pompey now a feeder club for Man City.

No, you do not have a kitchen cabinet of a stadium, but the stadium you have is empty!

I guess that you do not piddle all over the away seats, because Pompey fans have 'taken the piddle' out of you!

No, you do not have such a person as your best supporter. Perhaps you could identify a 'best supporter'.
