MANCHESTER United have accepted an £80m bid for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
The Portuguese winger expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford, forcing the English champions' hand.
According to Manchester United's website, the deal is expected to be concluded by June 30.
Manchester United beat Saints 3-0 in the FA Cup third round at St Mary's earlier this season, although Ronaldo did not feature.
If the deal goes through, it will be the biggest ever transfer deal in history, dwarfing the £56m Real Madrid paid AC Milan for Kaka over the weekend.
Although that is the biggest transfer in pounds sterling, the current exchange rate means in terms of Euros, the biggest deal is that which saw Zidane join Real Madrid for €73.5m (£47.6m.) in 2001 - the Madrid offer for Ronaldo smashes that though at €94m.
The £80m Real have bid for Ronaldo is more than five-and-a-half times the amount of the deal to buy Southampton FC.

Its relevant to Southampton as loads of their glory hunting fans live here. Personally I won't miss him. I wouldn't say he is a diver but when the Champions League final was on, my wife was hoovering at the same time, clipped the tv with the the hoover pipe and Ronaldo fell over!
