England manager Fabio Capello has spoken to David Beckham and has said ''it looks like he is out of the World Cup'', in a statement released this morning.
England's most capped outfield player ruptured his Achilles tendon on AC Milan duty against Chievo last night, sparking fears that he may never play again.
It is a huge blow to Capello, who spoke with Beckham late last night.
''We have to wait for the results of the scan, but it looks like he is out of the World Cup,'' said the England coach.
''I spoke with him after the game on Sunday night to offer my support, as did Franco Baldini.
''David is a great professional and has worked very hard to be ready for the World Cup, so missing it will be a big blow.''

It was written for him to score the winner in the final with a freekick!! Such a blow for England, how many more top players wont make it!?!

A true ambasador for the english game. When I heard this last night on SSN my first thought was thats it for Becks, and I still stand by that. Its a sad day for english football. He has to be one of, if not THE most consistantly good players over the last dacade and his absence will leave a gaping hole in the squad and leave us short on the class factor. I still think he should go to the world cup though and act act a support/mentor for the younger players, he still has a lot to give to the game in this country albeit not in a playing capacity. Good luck with the recovery Becks!!
