TWO Brett Williams goals and one by Richard Gillespie put a smile back on Eastleigh faces at the Silverlake Stadium last night.
Having crashed 3-0 at Chelmsford on Saturday, they beat Maidenhead United by the same scoreline in the Blue Square Bet South.
Once again, however, injuries overshadowed the Spitfires’ night.
Brett Poate fell awkwardly defending a corner and suffered a suspected broken arm.
And, having lost goalkeeper Gareth Barfoot to a broken finger in the warm-up at Chelmsford, the Spitfires had to take off Jason Matthews after 40 minutes due to groin trouble and throw teenager Freddie Toomer into the fray.
By then Eastleigh were well on top with on-loan AFC Totton frontman Williams having struck in the 20th and 22nd min utes.
First he plucked the ball out of the air and beat the keeper with a terrific lob and then he headed home Jamie Slabber’s cross.
With the hour mark approach ing Will Hendry nicked the ball and set up Gillespie to tuck away number three.
“We started nervously, but once we’d scored you could see an air of confidence spread through the side,” said manager Ian Baird.
“It was a much-needed three points and a much-needed confi dence boost.
“Freddie Toomer’s only a kid and it’s a big ask for him to come in at this level, but he did OK. He didn’t have a lot to do.”
