Eastleigh's record signing could be scuppered at the eleventh hour - by Newcastle United.

Bognor Regis marksman Jason Prior was in line for a £12,000 move to the Silverlake Stadium after his final game for the Ryman South club on New Year's Day.

But in a dramatic twist it was revealed earlier tonight that Premiership Newcastle have invited Prior to St James' Park to train with them.

Prior currently plays two levels below Blue Square South Eastleigh and SEVEN rungs below the Premiership.

But Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has an eye for non-league talent, having signed Aaron Martin from Eastleigh when he was Saints manager.
