FOLLAND Sports have knocked one Southern One South & West club out of the Russell Cotes Cup – and have their sights on another.

Goals by Jamie Barron and Matt Burt put paid to AFC Totton 2-1 at Follands Park last night.

Next up for the Planemakers is a second round visit from neighbours Sholing on November 18.

Joe Maxwell grabbed Totton’s late consolation and manager Steve Riley, who watched from the stand while coach Steve Hollick and reserves boss Rich Hayter took the team, admitted: “Follands deserved the win.”

Blackfield & Langley are up to third in the Sydenhams Premier after caning Christchurch 6-0 at Gang Warily. The Watersiders led 3-0 through Franklyn Clarke and Ekow Elliott (2) when Clarke was sent off early in the second half. But the ten men proved just as clinical with sub Jesse Gould, Jake Rowley and Hugh Dathan doubling the tally.

Blackfield are one of three teams queuing up behind leaders Whitchurch, who are a point clear after drawing 2-2 at Bemerton,

Whitchurch trailed to an Aaron Cook goal at half-time, but Ryan Lambert got forward from right-back to level early in the second period.

The Jam Boys then had a great chance to go ahead, but Lerone Plummer had a spot-kick saved before Bemerton reclaimed the lead through Neil Williams.

But Whitchurch refused to thrown in the towel and earned themselves a point on 82 minutes when Jack McCarthy fired home from a narrow angle.

Second-placed Moneyfields drew 1-1 at Horndean (Lewis Stockford), while fourth-placed Newport IoW staged a 4-2 comeback win at rock-bottom Totton & Eling.

The Millers looked destined for their first league win when Steve Jenkin and Adam Lowther put them 2-0 up. But two goals in five minutes by Tom Scovell and Aiden Sainsbury levelled matters before Port won it at death through Matt Evans and an own goal.

Former league leaders Petersfield led by a Danny Thompson at AFC Portchester, but Jamie Musselwhite’s penalty clinched a 1-1 draw.

Bournemouth Poppies and Fawley AFC drew 2-2 at Victoria Park with both sides missing a penalty.

Having led through a Charlie Willett strike, the Oilers succumbed to goals by Dan Saul and Diane Bassiriki, who was then denied by ’keeper Dan Parker’s penalty save.

Willett equalised on 66 minutes and Fawley spurned their chance of a late winner when Callum Tanner fired over from the spot.

Manny Soetan scored and earned a penalty, converted by Warren Kenna, as Lymington Town came back from behind to beat Verwood 2-1.

Three players were sent off in a stormy affair, including Lymington’s Luke Ansell, who received a straight red, and goalkeeper Stuart Williamson who got two yellows for dissent.

Winchester City’s scheduled trip to Fareham fell foul of a waterlogged pitch.
