ZAC Mouland has been given the all-clear after suffering a nasty head injury in AFC Totton’s 3-0 home win over Clevedon Town on Saturday.

The Stags were a goal to the good and motoring when their young No7 – called into the starting line-up in place of Jamie Bulpitt – clashed heads with a defender after Rob Flooks had nodded a deep corner back into the danger zone with half an hour gone.

Mouland went down and stayed down, prompting both sets of players to summon the physios onto the pitch and, around five minutes later, the stricken forward was stretchered off feeling somewhat dazed and sporting a egg-sized lump on his forehead.

An ambulance arrived to whisk him off to hospital and, following the game, there were kind tweets sent from both the Totton and Clevedon camps wishing him a speedy recovery.

Mouland has since taken to Twitter himself to thank all for their concern and he yesterday announced: “Finally got the good news and everything is fine! Just got to take it steady for the next few days.”

Prior to Mouland’s departure, Totton had deservedly seized a 1-0 lead through Craig Feeney’s 19th-minute penalty, awarded after Nathan Hurst had been brought down.

“We were playing at a good tempo up to the point when Zac got injured, but what happened took the out of our sails a bit – and understandably so,” said Riley.

“Everyone gets concerned when something like that happens to a player.

“I put James Jennings on, who had a good game, and we picked it up in the second half with Liam Gilbert delivering some good set pieces.”

Flooks went frustratingly close to doubling the Stags’ lead with a header that thundered off the crossbar following a corner.

But when another Gilbert flag kick caused bedlam in the 64th-minute, the former Fawley centre-back was in the right place at the right time to smash home the loose ball after Stuart Mott’s initial header had been blocked.

Five minutes later Feeney made it 3-0 with a cool finish after scampering onto Hurst’s headed assist and any faint hope Clevedon harboured of a comeback was extinguished when Rhymel Anderson got his marching orders fouling Feeney.

Totton’s second win in a row sets them up nicely for tomorrow’s (Tuesday) trip to Mangotsfield United who sit one place and five points beneath them in 15th in the Southern One South & West.

“We’ve got two tough games coming up with Mangotsfield followed by Cinderford at home on Saturday,” said Riley. “But it’s good to get back-to-back wins and we’re going try and make it the start of an unbeaten run.”

Ex-Sholing defender Mott, who had got the all-clear to play on Saturday following an ankle injury, was taken off after the second goal as a precautionary measure, but should be fit to face the Mangos.

“Stuart’s a soldier and he’s setting everyone an example with his will to win and that grit you need to get results. He’s done well since he joined us,” said Riley.
