AFC TOTTON’S newly-formed supporters’ group, The Stags Voice, want the whole of the British Isles to hear about the club.

Starting off north of the border, they have arranged a friendly match against the supporters of Scottish League Two outfit Berwick Rangers in May and hope it will be the first of many links with clubs far and wide.

“We’re trying to forge links with other supporters’ groups and have also had some form of contact with Arbroath in Scotland and Shelbourne from the League of Ireland,” explained Stags Voice chairman Adi Rose.

“In a dream scenario we would one day like to have a first-team tournament between the four clubs.

“Playing at Berwick is an historic occasion for AFC Totton supporters and, at our level, we think it’s quite unique.

“For many of us, this will be a rare opportunity to play at a Football League stadium and it’s a chance to make new friends.

“We do aim to hold a first-team friendly with Berwick in the future and hope this is a stepping stone on the way to doing so.”

Having grown up watching Saints, Rose felt priced out of the Premier League market and has fully embraced the non-League game.

“I’ve lived in Totton all my life and, after the FA Vase final (2007) at Wembley and all the promotions this club has had, I was astounded there wasn’t a supporters’ group, so I thought I’d better do it,” he said.

“For me, this club has so much potential

“We’ve got better facilities at the Testwood Stadium than many in the league above and maybe even the one above that and we want to get people back through the gates like they did for the FA Vase run and for the FA Cup tie against Bristol Rovers.

“There are around 330,000 living in the radius of the ground and we desperately need to tap into that by spreading the name of the club.

“I’ve got friends living locally who don’t even know what division we’re in, so we’re trying to do poster campaigns in the town and strike up links with the local community.

“We’ve had a couple of business putting up ‘We support AFC Totton’ posters. We want to bring the visibility of the club back to the town.”

The Stags Voice are looking to take a minimum party of 15 to Berwick on the weekend of May 16/17. Return flights from Southampton to Newcastle are £75 and it’s £32 from Newcastle to Berwick by train. There is a Travelodge in Berwick offering rooms from £37 a night, while B&Bs are slightly cheaper.
