AFC TOTTON have clinched four more signings for the new Southern One South & West campaign.

Rob Flooks’s departure to Winchester City has been offset by fellow centre-back Luke Dempsey moving in the opposite direction.

Stags boss Steve Hollick has also swooped for experienced striker-turned-midfielder Neil Williams from Bemerton Heath Harlequins and young defender Tony Rolls from Dorchester Town.

Coming in as competition for goalkeeper Steve Mowthorpe is 18-year-old Kieran Greene from Basingstoke Town.

Defender Flooks, along with gritty midfielder Liam Gilbert, has now put pen to paper for Winchester having featured in their 0-0 friendly draw against Gosport Borough last Saturday.

Both will be missed at the Testwood Stadium but, in former Alresford man Dempsey, Hollick believes he has a ready-made replacement for Flooks.

He said: “They’re very similar players and they both finished last season well, so it’s like for like really.

“I’m sure Paul (Masters, Winchester boss) didn’t really want to lose Demps the same as we didn’t want to lose Rob, but the pair of them have done a swap.”

Williams is a well-known face on the Wessex scene with both Bemerton and Blackfield & Langley.

“Neil used to play up front but he’s more of a midfielder now,” Hollick explained. “He’s probably got over 400 Wessex appearances behind him and he’ll give us that bit of experience and bite in the middle of the park.”

Totton’s other new arrivals, Rolls and Greene, are both bright young prospects.

“Tony’s a Poole boy who’s been on the fringes of Dorchester’s team and Kieran’s been on the fringes at Basingstoke,” Hollick explained.

“Kieran was down at Portsmouth for a bit and I spoke to (Pompey goalkeeping coach) Scott Bevan about him and he holds him in high regard.”

The Stags have also re-engaged long-serving forward Nathaniel Sherborne and bright spark Taylor Edwards for another season.

Two of Totton’s young home-grown players, midfielder Nathan Hurst and forward Zac Mouland, have gone to get regular football with Lymington Town in the Sydenhams Premier.

Hollick said: “They’ve got to the stage where they need to be playing regularly. It’s a shame to lose them, but it’s nice to see young lads get that chance.”
