AFC TOTTON slumped to their fourth straight league defeat tonight, beaten 1-0 at home by Mangotsfield United in the Evo-Stik Southern One South & West.

Ben Bament’s 20-yarder shortly before the interval was enough to ensure the Mangos took all three points back up the A36, writes George Galpin.

Stags keeper Steve Mowthorpe had twice come to Totton’s rescue earlier in the half, getting down to deny centre-back Ryan Batten following a corner and then having his palms stung again on 26 minutes by Mangos winger Elliot Gibbons.

Totton’s Neil Williams struck a mean shot of his own with ten first-half minutes remaining, but his volley from inside the box went just wide.

The midfielder went agonisingly close again on 40 minutes when he slid to reach Mike Gosney’s cross, but Totton were punished seconds later.

With no apparent danger, Mangos striker Bament unleashed a shot from the edge of the box, giving Mowthorpe no chance.

Totton’s keeper was busy again ten minutes after the restart, pushing Lewis Hogg’s curling effort behind for a corner.

The Stags so nearly equalised through Sherborne, but the striker’s header from Nick Watts’ cross looped just over and, seconds later, Sherborne did find the net only to be flagged offside.

The result leaves Steve Hollick's Stags static in 16th and keen to put things right at home to Bishops Cleeve this Saturday (3pm).

Sholing, last season’s beaten Hampshire FA Senior Cup finalists, moved safely into the quarter-finals with a 3-1 win at Moneyfields thanks to first-half goals from Doug Rowe, James Davis and Nick Yeomans. Toby McCauly headed one back for Moneys.

AFC Portchester breezed past a young Aldershot Town side 4-0 thanks to two-goal Joe Bye, Joe Noakes and Jason Parish, but Blackfield & Langley exited 1-0 at home to Basingstoke Town. Academy graduate George Hallahan grabbed the winner for the north Hampshire visitors, who also missed a penalty.

There was bad news too for Brockenhurst, crushed 5-0 at Fleet Town.
