STEVE Hollick is urging his AFC Totton troops to ‘win for Gos’ when Evesham United visit the Testwood Stadium on Saturday in the Southern One South & West.

It will mark a very special occasion for crowd favourite Mike Gosney who, having equalled Mark Osman’s all-time record of 386 club appearances against Bridgwater last week, is ready to take the honour outright.

Barring a short spell away at Gosport Borough, Gosney has graced the Stags for 11 years since the age of 16 and is Totton through and through.

“Gos has been outstanding throughout his whole time at the club and deserves all the plaudits he gets,” said manager Hollick.

“Hopefully we’ll go out and get a win for him on Saturday.

“To surpass Osey’s record is a fantastic achievement.

“Every time he puts on the Totton shirt he’s got the ability to make something happen and he’s chipping in with some vital goals too.

“People forget he’s still only young and will be a big part of the club going forward.

“Totton are lucky to have had such good, long-serving players as Gos, Nathaniel Sherborne and (formerly) Mark Osman. It’s a loyalty that’s often lost nowadays when players are quick to turn away when times get tough.

“Personalities like Gos are worth their weight in gold and it would be great to get the three points for him against a really good Evesham side.

“We lost (6-0) at their place, but we’re in a different place now to where we were then.”

Totton have won five of their last seven games and, with the whole squad now fit and firing, are struggling to give everyone a game.

To that end, experienced midfielder Dave Allen has dual-signed for ambitious Sydenhams Premier outfit Blackfield & Langley as he works his way back from an ankle injury.

“Dave’s gone there for a couple of games to help them out. He’s just come back from injury and it’s coincided with Neil Willams and Jack Alexander playing so well, so he was struggling to get in,” Hollick explained.

“Dave’s played a vital part for us even when he’s not been starting. He’s very vocal and great to have around the dressing room, but we ran the Blackfield move past him and he wanted to go and get games.

“Hopefully we can give more minutes to lads like young Jake Burgess and Kyle Joryeff between now and the end of the season.”
