AFC Totton 0 North Leigh 3.

NEW AFC Totton boss Louis Langdown now knows the full extent of the task ahead of him.

His first game in charge ended in a disappointing 3-0 home defeat by North Leigh, leaving the lowly Stags with much work to do to climb out of trouble in the Southern One South & West.

Langdown introduced two new signings with new player-assistant Adam Wilde slotting in at left-back in place of the suspended Ian Oliver and on-loan Havant & Waterlooville goalkeeper Charlie Searle replacing Steve Mowthorpe.

With Jack Vallis also suspended, midfielder Dave Allen played as a makeshift centre-back.

It was all industry but no real quality for the first 20-minutes on a grey, damp afternoon at the Testwood Stadium.

Sam Roberts, filling in the other central defensive position in place of the unavailable Pat Wilson, did well to stop North Leigh No 9 George Seacole in his tracks with a timely tackle as he powered into the box.

It was a full 22 minutes before a decent chance materialised and it was Totton who produced it – Roberts picking out Dan Munday who turned and drilled wide.

But a minute later the Stags fell behind to a goal that will have given the new manager nightmares.

Totton were undone way too easily as the Millers’ on-loan Oxford United keeper Emmanuel Agboola made a routine clearance which was flicked on to SEACOLE.

This time the striker burst clear of the Stags defence and beat Searle with a firm, low shot into the far bottom corner.

The home side lived dangerously from a couple of North Leigh corners before forcing one of their own on 32 minutes.

Mike Gosney’s initial delivery seemed harmless, but the Stags kept the ball and Nick Watts drilled a ferocious low shot at goal which Agboola did well to hold.

With the game having finally ignited, Seacole and Roger James slammed efforts wide down the other end before Searle denied ex-Salisbury City man Wayne Turk with his feet.

The next chance was Totton’s – the outstanding Agboola doing brilliantly again to claw away Munday’s downward header from Gosney’s deep free-kick.

Half-time: AFC Totton 0 North Leigh 1 Totton were desperately unlucky not to equalise on 49 minutes when Gosney released Watts with a measured pass down the left.

But, having bypassed Agboola, Watts’ angled shot appeared to take a touch off a defender as it ended up in the side netting, although no corner was given.

Gosney then threaded a pass through to Ashley Jarvis, but strong defending by Jon Else muscled the striker off the ball.

Totton’s Liam Hibberd defended well too, heading Else’s dangerous far-post cross behind.

But the subsequent corner was a different matter as big defender Stuart HOLE appeared unmarked at the far post to meet Michael Hopkins’ delivery with a powerful header for 2-0.

And with Totton miserably failing to learn their lesson, they were punished in near identical fashion less than four minutes later.

Again they failed to deal with a Hopkins corner and skipper HOLE cashed in with another header to surely wrap the game up for the visitors.

With the rain hammering down, Gosney did his best to lift Totton’s spirits with a determined solo run into the box, but he couldn’t summon up a finish.

Watts so nearly did with a well-struck volley from 25-yards, but that man Agboola was equal to it, brilliantly turning it aside for a corner.

Debutant Searle, likewise, did well to tame Turk’s shot on the run and then did even better to stick up an arm and push Seacole’s rasping shot over.
