NEW AFC Totton loan signing Curtis Young will have to wait for his home debut.

The AFC Bournemouth youngster made an instant impression off the bench last Saturday, giving Totton something to smile about for the last half-hour of their 5-0 defeat at in-form Taunton Town.

Looking lively on the right-hand side, he flashed one dangerous ball across the face of goal and then curled in a beauty of a shot which rebounded off the bar.

The 17-year-old's captivating cameo was enough to earn him the Stags’ man-of-the-match award and put him in possible contention for a start at home to Barnstaple Town on Saturday.

But, typically of Totton’s luck, Young rolled an ankle in training with Bournemouth on Monday and the Cherries want to rest him as a precaution.

“Curtis would probably like to play, but the Bournemouth physio wants him to have ten days' rest,” explained Totton boss Louis Langdown.

Young is the third young Cherries player to have come in since Langdown took the reins.

Wideman Ben Cooper has now returned to his parent club, while full-back Connor York has made a big impression since arriving at the Testwood Stadium.

“Connor’s come on in leaps and bounds,” said Langdown. “He’s an 18-year-old who is getting better.

“Connor’s performances have consistently improved and he has become a stand-out player for the side with his expert defending and energetic attacking play.”

Langdown is aiming to bring in two more young pros before Saturday’s crucial Southern One South & West basement battle.

A win for third-to-bottom Totton would bring them level on points with Barnstaple, albeit that the Stags have a vastly inferior goal difference and have played two games more.

Midfielder Neil Williams hasn’t trained all week due to bronchitis, but Langdown said: “Knowing Willo, he’ll want to play.”

Wideman Nick Watts has returned to training after resting a niggling hamstring problem.

*Salisbury can do themselves and Totton a favour by winning at Wantage Town.

Steve Claridge's men dropped out of the play-off zone with a 2-1 home defeat by North Leigh last weekend and will want to quickly get back to winning ways.

Wantage, 21st, and rock-bottom Bridgwater are both seven points behind Totton with a game in hand.
