LOUIS Langdown hasn’t quite reached the point where he can take a pipe and slippers into the AFC Totton dugout.

But the Stags boss cuts a far more relaxed figure in the technical area these days thanks to a run of three straight wins in the Southern One South & West.

Relegation talk is yesterday's news following Saturday’s 2-0 victory at bottom-of-the-table Bridgwater Town.

Conditions dictated that it wasn’t the prettiest of games, but that didn’t stop Totton scoring two second-half crackers.

AFC Bournemouth loanee Curtis Young got the first on 56 minutes followed by a Nathaniel Sherborne header which earned him a new nickname.

Langdown laughed: “Sherbs’ header was Les Ferdinand-esque from 15 yards and one of the lads called him Sherbinand!

“It was more of a rugby pitch than a football pitch, it was so boggy and bumpy, but the lads were happy to go in 0-0 at half-time knowing we had that bit of quality to go on and win it.

“For me it felt entirely comfortable, the same as when we won at Yate.

“I’m redundant now,” he smiled. “I can stand and enjoy it instead of having to shout and scream all the time.

“We’ve had a settled 11, which helps, and the players are starting to understand each other and get used to patterns of play.

“We’re fit, we’ve got experience and the players have a bond now that we’ve been trying to get for a while. They help each other, they socialise together and they put a shift in for each other.

“They’ve set themselves a target to go unbeaten until the end of the season.”

New goalkeeper Pat O’Flaherty, another AFC Bournemouth loanee, had a top-notch debut, saving at full stretch from Jake Llewellyn in the first half.

Totton’s Alfy Whittingham had an effort ruled out for offside soon after the break, but it wasn’t long before Young turned on the class.

The youngster’s initial cross ricocheted back to him and, from a tight angle, he took one touch before unleashing a wonderful volley across the goalkeeper into the far netting.

Eight minutes later Totton made it 2-0 from a well-worked short corner. Charlie Gunson crossed and Sherborne rose above his marker to thump the ball home.

Jack Goodall forced O’Flaherty into a truly remarkable double save as Bridgwater rallied and, with game petering out, Totton sub Mark Gamble had a shot deflected over.

"Pat O'Flaherty was excellent," said Langdown. "At 2-0 he's pulled out a save low to his right with his hand, the ball's gone to their striker and he's somehow flipped his foot round to kick it clear.

"I thought it was a defender who'd cleared, but it was Pat."

The 18th-placed Stags aim to make it four wins in a row at Paulton Rovers on Tuesday (7.30pm).

Paulton sit two points and two places above them and Langdown said: “Saturday’s win puts relegation to bed - now we’re looking to reel in Barnstaple and Paulton.”
