AFC Totton lost their fourth match in five to a controversial penalty at Taunton Town.

The Stags trailed 1-0 at half-time to Matt Wright’s 14th-minute header after missing several chances, including two by Craig Feeney.

Totton were also grateful to a fantastic save from Shane Murphy to keep out Omar Simpson’s powerful long-range shot.

Feeney equalised on the hour, lifting the ball over Taunton keeper Lloyd Irish.

But ten minutes later Taunton were awarded the match-winning penalty after referee Andrew Evans adjudged Wright’s collision with Stags goalkeeper Murphy to be a foul.

He apologised for the error but that was little consolation to a Stags side that had hoped to build on last week’s 5-0 win against Yate Town.

They were on course for a valuable point but the performance was a big improvement on their 5-0 defeat at Taunton last season.
