AFC TOTTON are sweating on the availability of Aldershot Town loan defender Jack Barker for Tuesday's (7.45pm) FA Trophy preliminary round replay at home to Taunton Town.

Barker, along with fellow centre-back Jack Smith, was outstanding in yesterday’s 1-1 draw away to the Evo-Stik South West table-toppers, but Stags boss Louis Langdown fears he may be needed by his parent club.

“Aldershot have got an under-23 game against Reading and Jack’s getting some really good reviews up there now,” he said.

“I wasn’t intending to play Jack Smith at Taunton because of his cut lip, but Callum Chugg had been ill and looked white as a sheet. So the two Jacks played together and they were excellent.

"When you consider Jack Barker is 17 and Jack Smith is 20, that’s not too bad from those two.”

Trailing to a first-half free kick from former Salisbury man Ben Adelsbury, Totton came into their own after the break.

They equalised when keeper Shane Murphy’s long, wind-assisted clearance was chased down by Nathaniel Sherborne and Craig Feeney. Under pressure, Peacocks ’keeper Lloyd Irish fumbled the ball, allowing Feeney to pounce from close range.

Feeney might have got another with a 25-yard strike that smacked the bar and was unleashed with such venom that it bounced back outside the box.

And, in the dying minutes, Irish had to be at his best to foil Charlie Gunson one-on-one.

“The first half was awful but in the second half we were really good and, on the balance of chances, we might have won it,” said Langdown.

“But we’re still in the hat, we’re five games unbeaten and we bring them back to our place.

“I doubt Taunton wanted a replay with games coming thick and fast. We could also do without it, to be honest, but we’ll take it.

“It’s a chance to play at home after all the away games and we’ll maybe get a few people in and some money in the coffers.”

Right-back Callum York is doubtful for the replay with a quad muscle problem.

*SALISBURY’S hopes of an FA Trophy run were nipped in the bud 3-2 by Evo-Stik South West rivals Paulton Rovers in front of a 541 Ray Mac crowd.

The Whites led 2-1 through Lewis Benson and a spectacular Kane O’Keefe strike – Rovers replying with an own goal - when the tie was held up for nearly half-hour with referee Dale Wootton suffering a hamstring injury.

Replacement ref Alan Overthrow awarded Rovers a 76th-minute penalty which James Byrne slotted home and Josh Morgan-Williams won it late for Paulton, charging down Elliott Wheeler’s attempted clearance and stylishly chipping ‘keeper Charlie Searle.
